2020 Calendars - Week 11

Bloody Hells.
I went to post this week's calendars, and find that somewhere I lost a day; it's already Monday evening. You probably knew that. I'm still reeling. But here's the planned post that should have gone up at 12:03 this Ante-Meridian:

Y'know - i may be digging a hole for later me, but i feel like tripling again. So let's do 3 of each of our 3 calendar artists this week.

For our Classic Pin-Ups Calendar, please welcome a newcomer to the roster - Mr. Art Frahm. Art is one of those artists who has something to say...

...well, perhaps not 'something to say' exactly...

...but he definitely offers his own distinct views...

Of course, he'd be greatly handicapped by modern wardrobes.

I think i may have said i'd try to move away from Enoch Bolles for a bit on the Covers Calendars.

I failed -

Someday i'd like to see a count of how many magazine covers he painted.

For our Blue Calendars this week, let's return to one of the true masters of the form - Gil Elvgren -

These calendars contain nudity, and so they are tucked back behind the age check in our 'back room'. This link will take you to the uncut version of this post.

This next one i find oddly intriguing. Mr. Elvgren seems to have been trying a little something different, slightly more stylized, reflecting other art trends of the time...

...and back for a classic Elvgren end -

As always, the calendars are sized to print 8"x10" at 150dpi, with 1" square spaces for notations.

2020 Calendars - Week 10

10 weeks without missing post time. (Okay - by only 2 minutes once, but still) Definitely doing better than last year.

We've got a trio of returning artists for this week's selections, starting with another piece from Mike Ludlow on our Classic Pin-Ups Calendar -

Enoch Bolles returns (yet) again for our Covers Calendar with Redhead Mistress painted for the March 1924 issue of Snappy Stories -

For a bonus this week, we've got an unused, more risque variant painting for the cover -

After our two non-nude nudes, we go to arguably the greatest pin-up calendar artist, Gil Elvgren, for a bit of actual nude with our Blue Monday Calendar -

Of course, since it does feature nudity, you'll have to visit our adult content back room to see if you think that was worth waiting for. Here's a direct link to the uncut version of this post.

As always, the calendars are sized to print 8"x10" at 150dpi, with 1" square spaces for notations.

2020 Calendars - Week 06

By popular request (Gordie's a popular kind of guy) we lead off this week with another from Edward Runci, the image that served for the template when putting together this year's calendars...

For this week's Cover Calendar, we've got another Enoch Bolles cover from the Film Fun -

It seems like we're leaning heavy on Enoch so far this year. I'll  try to remember to go a different way next week. But, as long as we're here, we've got the original painting for this cover, too -

This week's Blue Monday Calendar brings us a lovely winter image from Ren Wicks -

Of course, you'll have to step on through to our back room for the full version of this post with the adult content to see it. Here is a direct link to the un-cut post.

As always, the calendars are sized to print 8"x10" at 150dpi, with 1" square spaces for notations.

2020 Calendars - Week 04

In our fine modern entertainment tradition, we're going back to Week 01 of this year's calendars to reboot/recycle/rerun our artists for Week 04. Not the artwork, of course, just the artists.

First up, Henry Clive returns with a bit more classically themed piece in this week's Pin-up Calendar -

And for our Covers Calendar, Enoch Bolles returns, this time with the January 1942 cover of Film Fun -

And Archie Dickens gives us another winter themed pin-up for out Blue Monday Calendar, available in our adult content 'back room.'
Here's a direct link to the full version of this post.

We're keeping it very simple this week - just the three basic calendars. Now i'm off to figure out where i parked my brain.

As always, the calendars are sized to print 8"x10" at 150dpi, with 1" square spaces for notations.

13 January 2020

2020 Calendars - Week 03

This week we lead off with Mike Ludlow and a comic-appropriate painting for our Pin-up Calendar page -

Enoch Bolles returns for our Classic Covers Calendar with a Paris Nights cover from January 1937 -

For our Blue Calendar entry, we've got the first appearance of she who is arguably our oddest artist appearing on this year's calendars, Zoë Mozert . To view her artwork, step on back to our Adult Content room in The Other Voice Of ODD!

Meanwhile, here's a photo of Zoë in later years, standing in front of one of her most famous works, the Red Dog Rosie mural -

Yes, you can see the mural in the back room, too.

30 December 2019

2020 Calendars - Week 01

It's a new year with new calendars!

As mentioned a few times over the past couple weeks, we'll be running weekly calendars here, with three to choose from. We'll have two calendars featuring pin-up artwork and another featuring old magazine covers. One of the two pin-up calendars will feature nude artwork and appear in our 'back room' blog, The Other Voice Of ODD! And sometimes, like today, we'll have extra 'bonus' calendars. After all - we won't be needing New Year's Covers next week, will we?

There is one more calendar page offered this week. It contains nudity, so it's tucked into the alternate version of this post in our 'Back Room'. Click here to jump to the unbowdlerized post.

Note that calendars are sized to print 8"x10" at 150dpi, with 1" square spaces for notations.

2020 Vision

As many of you know, 2019 was an epic failure for calendars around here. I've got an eye towards the new year coming up and i'm making plans (and actual pages) to carry on in the tradition of the 2018 Gil Elvgren calendar. And a bit more, too.

That means a weekly calendar format, but i'll be offering a few choices. How many options is still uncertain. At least 3, possibly more. Currently planned are two classic pin-up art calendars - one "Good Girl" and one "Bad Girl." By that, i mean that there will be one nice calendar here, and another in the 'back room' where the girls take their clothes off.

Obviously, it would be cruel to make any single artist follow after Gil Elvgren, so the 2020 calendars will all feature several artists for a variety of works.

The third option currently in the works uses old magazine covers with paintings from a lot of great old artists.

And now that we're speaking of those artists, let's take a look at some of those that we'll be featuring. Don't worry - we won't be using any of the artwork that's scheduled for the calendars.

With 52 weeks and at least 3 - perhaps as many as 6 - calendars, that's going to be a fair number of artists. So we'll just look at 9 of them today to get things started.

Rolf Armstrong

Earle Bergey

Enoch Bolles

Mabel Rollins Harris

Harry Lemon Parkhurst (among other HLs)

Konstantin Razumov

Edward Runci

Arthur Sarnoff

Hugh Joseph Ward

I'll run another batch fairly soon. More than just to give a peek a whose work we'll be seeing, this also provides the opportunity for you to influence how prominently some artists are featured. You may also suggest other artists while i'm still in the gathering and compiling stage. You might even suggest artists already in the pile. That's okay, it just means i'm choosing well.
