Cosmo Cat's Secret Power

In our past perusals of Cosmo Cat, we seem to have skirted around the first issue of his own title. So, let's go there this morning.

Perhaps is was the unconfirmed nature of the artwork that pushed this back. It is suspected that Ellis Chambers may be responsible for these stories, but that seems purely speculation. And then there's the possibility that Pat Parrish was Ellis Chambers. But, again, we operate with no means of confirmation.

So, let's be like History and forget that for now.

As the subject line says, Cosmo Cat had a secret power - this story reveals a power greater than his strength, flight, crime & suicide detectors, and et cetera -

That could certainly be an Ellis Chambers ending to the tale. And how about that secret power?

Not a bad little hidden ace, eh...?

Of course, these days every comic book character seems to have that ability.

Cosmo had a second story in that first issue, so let's continue onward -

And here's the cover for that first issue -

Sorry, John & Marsha - They Got The Names Wrong (+FF&G)

One of the (many) great things about Stan Freberg is that i can run across a comic from 65 years ago and still hear Stan's recordings in my head when i read it...

Some odd fun for us old folks, and perhaps younger listeners of good ol' Doctor D. If you were wondering, the comic came out just 3 years after the release of John And Marsha.

But, it sure doesn't make a lot of post, does it?

Hey! We just saw Frank Borth again this past week. How about we let him show us how to draw Benjamin Franklin?

Yes, i've been digging into the old blog piles. Maybe we'll finally get back to one of those dangling threads around here and follow up on one of the first gender swaps which are so fashionable these days.

Meanwhile, you know what else i've been missing?

Friday Fun & Games.
Think we can get that ball rolling again?
Let's find out...

It's possible that the puzzle page above was drawn by the same guy who did the one below from later in the same issue: our old fave, Ellis Chambers

Okay, that'll do for a restart. Maybe it'll even continue. Either way, we'll have what answers there be on the morrow...

E.C. With E.C. & C.C.

Making good progress with getting set up to work again. Everything looks good and ready to go - with one slight snag.
I have no clue what my son's password is to access the system, and he's off on long haul trucking runs. No telling when messages will catch up to him. And so we wait...

But, while we wait, let's get an early start.

Xmas is coming, only ten days away. And only a week until the first night of Hanukkah this year. Maybe it's still a bit early to start doing holiday comics, but these guys got started in July!

Further fuel to the legend that Pat Adams was Ellis Chambers.

I'm gimping the prep work on this little laptop with the tiny screen - so that's all for now.
My eyes hurt.

Day After Funnies

So, yeah - I missed Sunday again. Pretty much missed the entire weekend, and i wasn't even off doing my Naruto imitation or anything. Just missed it. (When everyday is the weekend, it's hard to notice the real one sometimes. Of course, that doesn't explain why i've been missing days, so let's move along...)

Anyway, here we are once again with Monday Sunday Morning Funnies featuring our old fave, Ellis Chambers. Our first two comics are from Two-Bit The Wacky Woodpecker. These were some of the last strips published from Chambers that weren't reprints from early books. As are all of today's tales.

The first story was drawn at an odd aspect ratio which required a spot illo to fill the space on a typical comicbook page. This is the drawing used:

It appeared at the bottom of each page of the tale. I've omitted it here, since we're presenting the stories and not the comics, to allow a slightly larger display size in the page code:

The second tale in the book was more typically formatted -

Two-Bit ran for only 3 issues, but these are the only two stories signed by E.C. that appeared in the book.

Meanwhile, other Frisky Animals were running around. This one is unsigned, but believed to be Chambers' work, and he has done other Senor Tamale stories, lending further credibility to the assumption.

Since we're not completely certain that the above tale is indeed from Ellis Chambers, here's one more to make sure we have 3 today. Marmaduke Mouse and King Louie from Marmaduke's own title -

Hmm...
I think i see and Marmaduke & King Louie and Egbert & The Count post coming up the street...
