Blogger Hates You

Blogger/Blogspot doesn't seem to be accepting uploaded images currently, making it rather impossible to post about artwork. I'll assume this is part of their latest "upgrade" to the interface, and the accompanying horror show.

In theory, they'll let me post again someday soon.

And hopefully the mandatory changeover at the end of the month won't drive me to stop doing this.

We'll see...

Welcome To Mel

As you may or may not be aware, Mel Tormé means no post today.
Running way off cycle and caught up in work for a bit. Back tomorrow, eh?

Blackout Tuesday - Together Against Evil

Who Knew?
When fake president said "Make America Great Again" who would have thought he was talking about taking it back to before we were a democratic republic, to a time when we had to deal with a mad king ordering troops to murder citizens in the streets?

Now that 100,000 people in this country have lost their lives to our fake president's ego, ignorance, and inability to see past himself, he seems to have tasted blood. And wants to take a more active hand in the killing of the nation.

You'd better believe that he won't be satisfied with the blood of Black Americans.
You Sisters and Brothers may be on the front lines, but all of us are under the boot.

Resist Evil.

Dia De La Cabeza Muerta

It's one of those days...

Brain not talking to me just now. And doesn't want to prep pages. And Mel doesn't want to play. So, here's a few random images from work on The Third Colony. That's obviously another shot from Alyce: Glass Wonderland above.

Here's advertising for one of the most popular eateries -

(Yes, Dina Jr.'s pose is intentionally awkward and stiff - and in character)

...Cats Will Play, with Tom Cat and Pritty Kitty (and Manic Monday in the shadows - poor Tom)...

...and a recruiting poster for the local force -

Yeah, mostly weak bits of filler sitting on hand. Sorry about that. Maybe if we kiss and make up, my brain and i will be back later today with more better.

Sleeper's Dance I-III

Okay - i changed the background to that painting, but wound up repainting it all because i also changed things up a bit. I wet the paint more and softened up the brush with a cluster so tight it was just this side of painting with q-tips.

And i kind of went into a painting frenzy - finishing all three paintings in quick succession. (As always with fresh works, "finishing" and "finished" are subject to later review and revision after time and sleep).

However, you'll have to step into the back room if you want to see them. While i could get away with posting I & II up front (though perhaps pushing it), III and the assembled triptych would definitely offend the blog authorities.
Here's a direct link to the post.

Sleeper's Dance Sleeping

Hmm...

Seems to be getting light out. Didn't notice - i've been up painting all night. More than ready to crash now, and not really certain when i'll wake again.

So, in case i'm not up in time to decide on a topic and prep the pages for a post, here's what i've been working on. I think it's close to finished, but never know what'll run through my head when i view it fresh after sleeping.

I started out last evening working on the next Alyce painting with her ascent of the glass beanstalk. I made good progress, getting quite close to painting - but then the ol' brain took off on its own again and this popped out.

It's entitled Sleeper's Dance I -

-and yes, the next two are trying to get out of my head now.
And, Bonus! I can use these to make promotional posters for the Lullaby Festival they hold to keep the Big Guy sleeping in The Third Colony.

Okay. That taken care of, i feel covered and can sleep without concern for when i wake.

I mean, y'know - as long as i do wake.
I guess...

UPDATE: Nope.
Now that i'm awake and look again, i don't like the background at all. This piece started out with a concept of clean, solid colours on stark black. But along the way i decided to contrast the levels by doing fades that were contained with sharp edges. Don't like it today - and the eyes seem wrong. Isn't he supposed to be sleeping?

So, repainting the background before i move on to the next one.

Meanwhile, Out On The Fringeworlds...

'Twas a fairly successful supply run today. Apparently the fear of vampires has passed and the stores were stocked with garlic once again.

The ol' mind is skittering about, a bit too unfocused for a real post, but the urge to post is there anyway. So let's ramble a few about some of the progress on The 3rd Colony. (If that's unfamiliar to you, it's the game i work to keep my mind from rusting up)

In Week 02, The Registry is running a series of Lotteries to bolster the coffers. (The Registry is the agency which coordinates and supports the superheroes in the game.) The prizes are of the Win-A-Date With A Superhero variety. (Heroes should really read every bit of those contracts) Of course, multiple lotteries are needed lest potential  purchasers be excluded. Hence Lottery ratings M, F, and A. Here is a triptych sampling of the posters to show you what i mean...

A couple of explanatory notes:

The word Consentable is a term indicating Legal Self-Competence in the game world.

Seed is empowered by the World Tree (that's the Wawa Aba on his chest) and has a holy duty to pass on the lineage. But only 1 in 10,000 women (at most optimistic estimates) is capable of successfully bearing the sacred heir. Tired of it though he may be, his search is near constant, by obligation. This is well known in the hero guidebooks, so his 'Prize' is altered accordingly.

Yes, it's Pinku Cherry, too.

Meanwhile, new shows continue to arrive on the vid channels, one of which should look familiar...

New adverts pop up as well, which can be a lot of fun. I wind up setting the design aesthetic of the 'art world' out on the Fringe, as reflected through the advertising. There are two competing major agencies representing the old school and new wave of the current local art movement.

These first two ads are from the new style agency, which you can see reflected in the sets and backgrounds -

This ad is from the old school competition (which a heavy touch of Finger/Sprang influencing their ads - these are the guys who'd have the giant working type-writer).
Yes, Genni is a popular up & coming model/star sought by clients of both agencies -

BTW - that Fluid Glass Fabric is made from industrial mining waste and has some nasty toxic properties. But OKW is OK Worlds Enterprises, the sleazy major corporate co-owner of the mining colony. And they're the most 'good guy' of the partners, so nobody is monitoring that stuff out here on the Fringeworlds.

Yes, i go into ridiculous levels in some aspects of the game. That's the beauty of having no real expectation of completion. Since the work itself is the important part to help keep things chugging along upstairs, i can let it go where it wants - as long as it all weaves together satisfactorily.

And i do believe it's time to slip back into it. Maybe i can get the promos done for C'thul'hu And The Angel or Purr Patrol.

We'll see...

Saturday Solutions On Saturday

Our recent quiz might have been Close Enough to Friday, but i figured an extra day wouldn't hurt and so we're back on track for our answers.

01) Camp Comics
Not familiar? Perhaps if you were stationed on a military base in 1942 you'd have been more likely to see them.

02) Christine Baranski played the evil warlord in Fake Purse Ninjas -

03) In Orbit working to keep the planet from being blown apart while the Avengers were busy with Thanos -

04) Transylvania 6-5000

05) Viy

06)Need another hint? Maybe a closer look at the couple in the skybox...?

Did it help?

Here's where you can find Jeff Goldblum playing a lecherous disco owner -

And you get The Commodores, too!

07) Archer & Armstrong.

The picture came from Ninjak Vs. The Valiant Universe.

08) This -

Look - I told you to watch Harley Quinn.
Second season has already reached the midpoint.

09) Luke, Jessica, Matt, and Danny -

Y'know...  these guys -

10) Nikopol and Horus.

11) John.
While this first poster may be more visually striking, the second one features both Bark Lee and Clancy Brown, so it is clearly superior -

12) At the Toronto International Battle Of The Bands -

While scoring fewer points, this is also an acceptable answer -

13) Smoking Grass, obviously -

14) Jack Kirby's hand was on the sketchpad -

He was an anonymous Police Sketch Artist on The Hulk -

15) Cyborg on Doom Patrol chastised -

How does that make Literal Sense?
Jane's Silvertongue manifests her own words to use as weapons...

...so one can literally be impaled by them.

16) These celebrities...

...briefly.

17) This Guy-

If you really want to appreciate the gravitas Peter Dinklage brings to his role in Game Of Thrones, watch him toss it all out in Knights Of Badassdom. The contrast highlights his skills. (Though you couldn't tell it from that shot above)

18) Kekko Kamen

19) Red Hat

Both of our silhouetted superheroes can only be fully revealed in our Adult Content back room. You can see them here.

20) Brodie...

...in the movie (and the band of the same name) Deathgasm -

21) Robot Bastard!

Close Enough To Friday

We haven't done one of my home-made quizzes in about two and a half possum's ages. I seem to be in the mood, so i guess it's time.

Here's a set of 21 questions - some quite simple, some ... not so  much.

01) This comic book had only three issues published. Name it.

02) Christine Baranski is often great, but her most legendary role went largely unseen. What was the title of this movie?

03) Place this Infinity War scene -

04) In what venue did this comedy team perform together?

05) Name this demon -

06) Before what movie did the Columbia Hold-The-Torch Lady break down and boogie?

Need another hint...?

07) Identify this comic book couple -

(Bonus points for identifying the source of this pic)

08) What needed to be explained?

09) Who had their first dinner together here?

10) Identify this comic book couple -

(Likewise)

11) In whose place did Bark Lee die?

12) This erg ape battled these energy dragons where?

13) What is this boy doing?

14) Whose hand is that?

15) Explain how this quote makes literal sense -

16) Name these celebrity heroes -

17) Who delivered this line where?

18) Identify this hero silhouette -

19) Yeah, okay. That one was too easy. So identify this hero silhouette -

20) Who discovered this effective anti-zombie weapon?

21) Identify this leading 'man' -

Y'know, i think of this guy every time i see JJ Abram's Bad Robot production company logo. (That's NOT a hint)

Answers to a few of these should be extra easy for folks who've been reading along for a while and have real good memories. As for the rest (both answers and folkses), the solutions will be along directly.

stills from the answers, so forget it!
