...With One ICK!

These days Don Rosa is renowned for his work with Disney & Barks' Ducks (Donald & Scrooge). And, as we've seen in recent posts, he was well known long before that in fan circles (and Louisville, Kentucky) as a comic artist.

Don had another reputation back in the '70s - one that may have made him more highly regarded in some circles than did his story telling. From that, we got scores of cartoons and spot illos from him of a seemingly random nature. But, really - there is something tying all of these together...

(NOTE: There is no point to clicking on the images in this post. Since they are all single column width toons, they're prepped at 600 pixels wide and presented at full size)

(That's an E, not an F. It's not a Girl Friday costume)

(He does a pretty damn good Dick Briefer, eh?)

(Ask your grandparents)

Well, dang.
Even just that sampling sure took up a lot of post, huh?

We'll have to get back to the whats, whys, and wherefores next time.

The Captain

Well, frell.

Just realized that instead of working on blog post i need to be heading to my regular session with the med techs to see about keeping the meat fresh. I tend to return rather depleted, so there may or may not be a 'real' post later today. Perhaps not until tomorrow.

So, we'll just have a quick teaser for now.

Those who read the comments may have noticed that the Mindbender from Mars mentioned that Lance Pertwillaby later becomes a superhero - Captain Kentucky

Here's a pic to tease what's ahead...

Um, yeah. That photo is perhaps a bit more recent than the tales we'll see.

Behold - The TRUE Secret Of The Temple Of The Son Of The Sun!

Ready for the third and final part of the Pertwillaby Papers daily strips? (You already read parts one and two, right?)

Let's dive straight in -

And so ended the Pertwillaby Papers.

Until it began again...

I'm A Bit Gravitationally Challenged At The Moment!

Did you tune in to catch the third installment of Lost In (an alternate section of) The Andes this morning?

Nope, not happening.
(It'll be here this afternoon.)

I've been running on the assumption that everyone knows who Don Rosa is because... of course they do! Let us pause for the benefit of those who are not "everyone" and peek at a bit of the work that made him famous. Don was (and is) a huge fan of 'the good duck artist' and has carried on the works of Carl Barks. (A part of why i said he's likely genuinely proud of other works in yesterday's post)

Rather than try to describe the work Don has done with Bark's Uncle Scrooge, (among others) here's one of my favorites so you can see for yourself. Don finds a simple, but brilliant, idea from which to bring a novel adventure with fresh visuals and humor naturally inherent in the very concept. From 1997, A Matter Of Some Gravity -

Yep. Donald drove in that position before Deadpool.

That's a glimpse for those who are lucky enough to have all those old stories to discover for the first time. You go work on that and we'll be back this afternoon to conclude the Pertwillaby Papers dailies.
