Apparently this "love" stuff has been pretty sick & twisted all along...
After all the lewd puns, threats, masochism, bondage, pussy licking, topless man-eaters, and what all in the other cards, that last one still manages to be extra creepy in its way.
So next time, we'll come back with some nice, wholesome comic book Valentines.

Fascinating glimpse into a world which can never be again. The inherent violence in these valentines, hidden in plain sight, is a window into a culture that was once upon a time not afraid of its own shadow. The skunk is really funny, but an image that would...ahem...draw a lot of fire these days. (I'm sure someone, if they were to read this, would critique my lack of sensitivity to the school shooting which is obliterating news in my land at the moment until some outrage by the President or his minions recaptures their attention.)

ReplyDeleteThere's a great deal of importance hiding in that simple phrase. Worthy of a full post in itself.
Some folks might call you out for not hating what you're supposed to hate, as it were, but while the light toned humor of a dark subject is off limits currently, contrast it with that final Captain Marvel/Shazam card. That's post New52, so fairly recent, and it uses the most "rape-y" faced Captain Marvel image to ever appear, especially inappropriate for a character that's the embodiment of a young boy, and typically an icon of the light humored hero. Somehow that's seen as more acceptable?
You've got to find your own balance, because society is going to find its own imbalance.
