Just an "I'm Alive!" and a "Don't delete my blog" with a side of "Happy Holidays!"
Oops. It's been a while and i'm not in SFW mode these days. I forgot this site is Safe For Work, and put a greeting with nudity here. It's been moved to the back room.
Carry on...
EDIT: I'm told i should let folks know where i hang my pixels these days - The Third Colony.
Hope you had a Merry Christmas, 3, and have a Happy New Year when it arrives.
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays amigo. Glad to see life here at last.
ReplyDeleteThanks, guys. It's good to hear familiar voices from outside.
ReplyDeleteIt's been an odd time. Since my 'home on the web' burned down, so to speak, my broken brain has mostly avoided the internet. I'm only online for email and to work my Third Colony site.
And i haven't read a single comic since the last post here. My mind is in heavy avoidance mode. I can't put into words how odd that's been.
It's not like 2020 has given great incentive to be a part of the world, y'know.
So, i'm still here, but the inner hermit has retreated deeper than ever into the cave. And perhaps deeper into insanity, living and playing in my own little world. (Definitely that second part)
On the plus side, i've been turning out a Lot of render art and work for my little world of The Third Colony. So at least spending time in my strange private world is kinda/sorta productive?
Anyway - take care, guys. Hopefully my mind will break pattern before too long and i'll at least be back out the web in the coming year.
I'm getting frustrated with Google. I reported critical bugs in October. I repeated the bug reports in December. The bugs are still there, and on Jan 1st I discovered a new bug. I don't think they read what I send with "Get Feedback".
ReplyDeleteIt's been over a decade since i started using blogger and longer with gmail. Never once in that time have i ever seen any result from the feedback. It seems to be simply a device to direct complaints to the brick wall.
ReplyDeleteWorse, even if they suddenly decide they need a working interface, and one designed for bloggers, not twitters, they've still told me not to bother with the blog. I recently received an email saying they were going to start deleting inactive blogs.
You may recall i've frequently mentioned 'writing to the future' on this blog. The whole point of it was building a database that would be here for others to use after i was gone. But they tossing that stuff to the gutter now, so what's the point? (Besides the social contact - nice to talk at ya!)
I've been thinking maybe i'd stack up 20-30 years of Xmas greetings in the queue. But they'd probably just wind up cutting the 'Inactive' time down to six months if i did that.
Who, me? Frustrated...?
Oh well. It's allowed my mind to go wandering deep into my own dark and deranged little world with The Third Colony. What started as a little experiment looking into my game world just passed 70 posts. I didn't think it would go 10.
Aaaand... i'm rambling. I do miss the social aspect of the Voice Of ODD!, minimal though it may have been. It's still significantly more than a cave-dwelling hermit tends to see.
I hope your year is already looking better than the previous one.
Take care!
Can you send me a copy of the email about deleting inactive blogs, please. One of the reasons I chose Blogger over Wordpress was the promise that blogs would last "forever", or as long as Google doesn't go bankrupt. I want my blog to remain online after I die. I know that sounds morbid, but I want to leave some sort of legacy behind after I'm gone.
DeleteWell, thanks for making me dig out the mail and read it through. I seem to have been somewhat in error.
DeleteApparently it only applies to Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos. (At least, currently.)
When i scanned the beginning of it, i thought it applied to all google services. The mail went out to gmail accounts on 10 Dec. If you want the full text and don't have it, i can send it along.
And, no - i don't think that's morbid at all. It's a body of work built over time, and that represents a legacy. That's why i set the memorial link to Snell's blog when he died.
Oh okay. I got that email as well. The only part that affects me is the photos, because if my photos are deleted they'll disappear from my blog as well. I intend to write to them about that. I don't mind the snaps from my mobile phone being deleted, because after I'm gone nobody can access them anyway, but I'd like the uploaded photos that I use for my blog to remain online.
DeleteIf images start disappearing from the Snell blog, we'll know why. Unless he has a relative still logging into his account to keep it active.
DeleteDoes blogger automatically share any pics you upload into that pool? Or is it just something you've been doing for convenience when working?
DeleteIf the latter, i'd consider moving/copying pics and changing links.
Now you're being a bit morbid. But, you're right. Brian's still serving the community even after he's gone. But he'll make a canary i'd really hate to see keel over.
Whenever you upload a photo with the "insert image" link, the image is saved in Google Photos.
DeleteGreat. So i have a Google Photos account that i don't even know about?
ReplyDeleteOkay - so maybe 50 years worth of holiday greetings in the queue to
keep it active?
That wouldn't work. This would keep your blog active, but it wouldn't keep Google Photos active. I'm worried about this. I'll write to Google, if I can find the email address of someone who actually answers.
DeleteI thought of that not long after i sent. Which means we'd have to leave a stack of posts with an interested 3rd party who would continue to keep it active.
DeleteUNLESS - if you ever Actually manage to get through to somebody who will reply, does the account still register as 'Active' if people are accessing the pics (via the blogs)?
Or do we have to be adding to it to keep it alive?
