Maybe soon

No promises, but it looks like The Voice Of ODD! will return next month in a new location.

I'll let you know more when things are confirmed.

  1. What are your thoughts on the New Blogger Interface (NBI)? I hate it. It's aesthetically less pleasing, and it's full of bugs. See my preliminary list in my "Night at the Museum" list.

    1. They murdered my blog, that's what i think.
I find it to be unusable, and find the theory that they're planning to roll out a pay version soon that actually works to be very believable.

And, of course, the broke the back-up function in previous "upgrades" and still, years later, have yet to repair it. So moving your blog becomes highly impractical.

So, maybe continuing elsewhere, but certainly not here. As it stands, Blogger is nothing but an archive of the past.

    2. *sigh*

    3. I've considered ending my Marvel Years posts with December 1974. The new interface makes it difficult to write long posts, and my Marvel Years posts are over 50 pages each. I'll wait for the bugs to be fixed, then make up my mind.

  3. What possibilities are you looking at? Can you give us an update? I'll be posting less (or only shorter posts) until the imageanchor bug is fixed.

    1. Sorry i haven't updated the info. I've been having trouble herding my mind back to VOO - it keeps scurrying away like a kicked dog when i try.

If you were thinking it might be a good option for you, sorry - this won't help. The few human contacts i keep close are concerned about the loss of the blog. Either for my mental health, or for the safety of others - i'm not sure which.
But, either way, i'm being offered server space to set a home for a custom controlled blog, like Wordpress or similar type thing. He's trying to get me to set up merchandising my artwork from the site, but i don't know about that. I think that's also part of what keeps my brain skittering away.

      Anyway, hopefully something soon.

Meanwhile, i found my way back to my old web comic account at Comic Fury, and spent this past week setting up a site for just The Third Colony so i can stop cluttering up The Voice Of ODD! with that stuff.

  4. Well...

I've been given my own domain, but i don't think The Voice Of ODD! will be returning any time soon.

I've noted more than once that i tend to write to the future. The true value of the blog, in my eyes, was the archive it was building. That might sit on corporate servers for years, perhaps even decades, for others to find and use.

But continuing on my own domain, the site would only last for so long as someone was paying for it, and then it would evaporate. It doesn't have the value of persistence that this one will hopefully continue to enjoy for many years.

And so, while i do need to fill that sense of social contact for my mental and emotional health, the sense of purpose isn't there any more. Perhaps someday either Blogger or i will change enough to connect again. Or maybe someday i'll find a new home that offers a sense of, if not permanence, at least lasting duration.

As it stands, i simply don't have the heart to continue.

I think blogger may have it somewhere in storage, desiccating in the dark.

    1. That's the main reason why I want to remain with Blogger. It's the only platform which I expect to exist after my death. Paid services would expire when I'm no longer there to pay the bills, and I don't have much faith in Wordpress for continuity. Blogger might not exist forever, but it should last for another few years at least.

  5. I'm sorry to see things come to this, but you were doing this for a good while before I discovered you, so I'm going to spend some time checking things in the backlog. Maybe even talk to you there, yeah?

  6. Mike, Eric -

My apologies to both of you. I tried twice before to reply and the responses were eaten by the system, once due to my own stupidity. Since then, my mind has simply refused to come back around this way. After having the blog taken away from it, it'll barely go online any more. The only things i do online lately are email and the site i set up for The Third Colony ( t3c.cfw.me ). Other than that, i've gone full hermit these days. And worse - i haven't read a single comic book since the death of VOO.
It wasn't mentioned often, but the3rdroad.blogspot.com has moderated comments that don't get published so you can safely drop an email address if you were deranged enough to be interested or had questions.
And the T3C site is open to anonymous comments.

Again, my apologies for you both getting caught up in my crazy. I hadn't forgotten; it just took weeks to wrestle my mind over this way. Thanks for all the support you both provided - it was greatly appreciated.

    1. I'm continuing with my blog, but my posts have become shorter because of the new interface. The two big bugs, which I call the imageanchor bug and the live update bug, make it very difficult to create large posts with a lot of pictures.

I'm still blogging about films, but my Marvel Comics posts have been suspended until these two bugs have been fixed. I'm not holding my breath.

    2. Frankly, the interface is so horrifically bad that i never got far enough to encounter the bugs.
But, hopefully i'll get back out to reading other blogs again before long. I'm definitely growing more disconnected from the world these days. Of course, the astounding levels of stupidity running rampant in this country (USA) makes me feel pretty good to not be connected.

    3. To be honest, I can put up with the new interface, even though I prefer the old one. It's the bugs I don't like.

I've spoken to "insiders", and I was told that the old interface no longer works because changes to Google's handling of images broke it. The Blogger team was ordered to provide a new interface as quickly as possible. I wish it were more similar to the old interface.

As for not being connected to the world... read comics, not the news!

P.S. Have you noticed the new bug below the comments box?

  7. I'm looking around, but not seeing the new bug to which you refer.

    What am i missing?

    1. The "live update bug" happens when you edit a post that's already been published. You can check it by having two windows open. While you're editing the post it's published online every few seconds. This is an awful bug. If you mess up your edit and decide to abandon it, it's too late. Your changes have already been published, and the original version is gone.

    2. Oh wait... are you referring to the "bleeding text bug"? Have a look at this screenshot: https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HFPjhGm9hEo/X7joITDjSBI/AAAAAAAA6zU/5MscPYDgAicXUW3TLucxKkmL6nPirpx0ACLcBGAsYHQ/s650/Bleeding-Text-Bug.jpg

  8. I hadn't encountered either of those. Just plain sloppy work, so those fit right in with the rest of it. Sounds like any edits should be done in Notepad or something on the side, then pasted when finished.

Or, y'know - just avoid it completely, i guess.
